SurVino:
This wine is difficult to forget; although we drank it three weeks ago, its
memory remains sufficiently fresh to inspire more than a few lines. In essence this is a French oak wine, in which the natural wood aromas seem to dominate over the toasted ones (there is neither candy nor graphite but rather wood resin). This is a very robust wine in the mouth, with balanced acidity; that is to say, somewhere between dry and fresh. Recommended.
Presenttation Casas del Bosque Vineyard:

Grapes : Chardonnay 100%., Casablanca Valley.
Vintage : The grapes were carefully hand harvested in April 2005
Average per Ha : 7 Ton.

Tasting notes : Intense gold color, with peach and apricot mixed with a hint of hazel hunt and lemony oak aromas. Full bodied palate, peach/lemon flavors, mid palate with a long mineral and creamy finish prolonged by an elegant vanilla.

This medium straw sure smells like gewurz, all peachy and litchi and stuff, but it tastes more like
Sauvignon vino Gewurztraminer ChileBlanc at first, according to Cousin Larry Meehan; medium to medium full bodied, tart and crisp, with under-ripe fruit; however, it opens quickly with only a few more sips to reveal the floral peach and litchi that are so characteristic of the varietal and a subtle fruit (not sugar) sweetness, with good intensity and some mineral underneath. There’s nothing delicate about this wine, indeed, it’s quite assertive, and the more I sip, the more I like.
Fruit sourced from the El Marco Estate (Casablanaca Valley), planted in 1997; sandy soil with clay and low water retention. Vertical trellis, drip irrigation and integrated vineyard management including geese and INIA bands for pest control. Cordon pruning with 2 bud spurs every 10 cms., 35% leaf removal. Harvested April 10th, hand picked, with yields of 2.83 tons/acre. Vinification: 100% destemmed, stainless steel, 100% cold maceration; aged in stainless steel.

Casablanca Valley, Chile.
Available from 8 Euros.
A good value (ie cheap) aperitif was required; but a wine with some weight that could continue to be drunk through the first couple of courses. A bottle of Chilean Chard was grabbed from the shelf.
The aroma is quite oaky (butterscotch) but it transforms into just a splash on the palate. Tropical fruits add an exotic edge to the citrusy palate. Drinkable, (which I find is highly desirable in a wine!), and pleasing. The grapes for this are in the process of being classified as organic chilean wine.

Veramonte Sauvignon Blanc is grown in the cool Casablanca Valley area of Chile, 22 miles from the Pacific coast.
Winemaker is Rafael Tirado.
Color: Pale straw with a greenish tint. Aromas: Brisk grapefruit and grass combine with hints of blossoms and spice to create a wild white of some complexity. The mouthfeel is light-to-medium, round, with citrus and apple flavors and nice acidity. The finish is clean and dry.
I first tried this brand in my round-up on Winecast 12 last year and it has made it into my cellar ever since as a great value for hot summer days selling for $8-9 a bottle. The wine is light straw with a slight green hue. Fresh hay, lime and pineapple aromas with some gooseberry reminiscent of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. On the palate, there is tart grapefruit flavors with nice acidity to match with food. The match was especially good with the chicken brats adding an nice counter-point to the bacon and swiss cheese flavors. I’d recommend this one for grilled pork too, as long as there is not spicy BBQ sauce involved in the preperation.
13.5% ABV. Stelvin closure.
Production: 37,000 cases.
